Dental Implants

Do you struggle to eat or speak due to missing teeth?

Dental implants are the gold standard to help fill in the gaps in your smile and restore your oral function.

Learn how our skilled dentists in Wasilla, AK, can help you smile confidently once more with implants.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots often made of titanium or ceramic. These tooth roots offer amazing stability by supporting a variety of restorations to replace missing teeth.

Once they've been placed at our Wasilla dental office, implants offer incredible bone-saving benefits. After our patients lose a tooth, their jawbone no longer receives the stimulation the tooth root once provided.

This means the jawbone can begin to deteriorate, which can lead to further oral health issues. Luckily, we can help with implants, which provide the jawbone with the stimulation it needs to stay healthy.

Considering Implants? We Feature Multiple Options

At our office, we can tailor the right implants to your needs. In addition to the standard traditional titanium implants, our team also offers:

Mini Dental Implants

Don't have enough bone tissue for an implant? Instead of opting for supplementary bone grafting or a sinus lift, you may be a candidate for mini dental implants. They still have similar bone-stimulating benefits compared to traditional implants, but they do lack comparable longevity.

All-on-4 Implants

Another option that may be helpful for patients with insufficient bone tissue is All-on-4® dental implants. Using just four implants, we can secure a full arch restoration in place. As a result, patients are able to enjoy lifelike dentures and restored oral function.

All-on-6 Implants

For Wasilla, AK, patients exploring dentures, the All-on-6® system can make a life-changing difference. Like All-on-4 implants, All-on-6 implants use a similar technique to maximize your available bone tissue. However, the method simply uses six implants instead of four to secure your restoration.

See How Dental Implants Work

During treatment, your dentist will surgically place the implant into your jawbone. An abutment or connector piece tops the implant, securing the restoration to the implant. In this case, a dental crown is used to replace a single missing tooth.

A Real Wasilla Patient Talks About Their Dental Experience

"Dr. Casey Bowen and dental hygienist Chanel were awesome. I was amazed by how great they worked together to resolve my problem and he gave me a back up plan if plan A didn’t work. I would highly recommend Dr. Bowen and staff. Thank you guys for everything!" Erik Campbell

Dr. Woods and staff were very accommodating and friendly. I appreciated the clear communication from both the doctor and front desk. I live in Eagle River but believe the drive is worth it for the quality care they give!

How Long Do Implants Last?

/

A common concern for our Wasilla patients is the longevity of their implants — and we're happy to ease your worries. Because dental implants can often last a lifetime with good care, you'll likely only need to undergo implant surgery once. Your restorations will need to be replaced every decade or so, but since we can create CEREC restorations on-site, we're able to streamline the process. If you require a larger restoration, we'll work with a trusted local lab.

Dental Implant Candidacy

Wondering if you are a candidate for dental implants? During your initial consultation at our Wasilla dental office, your dentist will help you determine if you qualify. You may be a good candidate for implants if you:

Are in Good Oral Health

You must be free of tooth decay and gum disease before dental implant placement. This ensures a healthy foundation for your implants and crown, bridge, or denture. Our dentists offer comprehensive treatment options to help you qualify for implant treatment.

Have a Dense, Healthy Jawbone

You must have sufficient jawbone material for the dental implants to fuse with. If you have experienced bone atrophy, your dentist will determine if you need preparatory bone grafting and refer you to a trusted oral surgeon if needed.

Do Not Use Tobacco

Tobacco use is not only detrimental to your oral and overall health, but it can increase your risk of infection and implant failure. It is strongly suggested that you quit all tobacco products before dental implant placement to give you the best chance of success.

Not Eligible Yet? We Can Help

Dental implant consultation

Some dental patients may not be ready for implants yet because they have bone loss, damaged teeth, or decayed teeth. We can address bone loss with bone grafting or sinus lifts, or we may recommend an implant option that needs less tissue, like All-on-4 implants.

As for damage and decay, though we aim to save your natural teeth whenever possible, we can perform extractions if they're necessary. To reduce your treatment timeline, your dentist may even be able to extract your teeth and place your implants in just one dental appointment.

Dental Implant Treatment Timeline

Your treatment timeline may look different based on your needs and whether you need preparatory procedures such as tooth extraction or periodontal care. However, treatment typically consists of these stages:
We offer sedation dentistry options and use 3D CT scans for unrivaled precision.
We offer sedation dentistry options and use 3D CT scans for unrivaled precision.

Consultation

You will meet with one of the dentists at our Wasilla office for an exam to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. They will discuss your goals and develop a custom treatment plan to fit your needs. Depending on your case, we may be able to offer procedures like tooth extraction, bone grafting, or sinus lifts to make you eligible for implants.

Impressions

Using digital technology, your dentist will take impressions of your mouth. These images are sent to our trusted local lab where they will craft your custom dental crown, bridge, or denture.

Anesthesia

Before your implant procedure begins, your dentist will numb the area. If needed, you can also opt for sedation dentistry to help you relax during treatment. Our team offers oral conscious sedation to achieve a moderate level of relaxation. You can expect to feel completely calm but still be able to respond during treatment.

Implant Placement

We use computer-guided surgery and surgical guides for precise implant placement. Once you are numbed, a small incision is made in the gums and a small hole is created in the bone below. Your dentist will then place the titanium implant into the jaw. This process is repeated to accommodate the number of dental implants you require.

Healing Period

In some cases, you will simply be given time to heal following implant placement. In others, we can immediately place your temporary restoration. Either way, this gives your implants the chance to fuse to the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This can take between three to six months.

Abutment Placement

Once we verify the implant has fused with the bone, you will return to our dental practice to have your abutment placed. An abutment is attached to each dental implant. This allows your dentist to secure your restoration directly to the implant.

Restoration

At our practice, there are two ways we can make your restoration: using our in-house CEREC machine or relying on a trusted local lab. After you have healed for a few months, your dentist will then secure your custom permanent restoration to the dental implants. Then, all you have to do is enjoy your beautiful new smile.
